TRIPLE "A" ACADEMICS, ARTS, AND ATHLETICS AWARD SCHOLARSHIP 

Triple "A" is a recognition program the League has sponsored since 1988.  The award goes to student who have a 3.0 or higher grade point average and who participate in athletic and fine arts activities.

AAUW OWATONNA DOROTHY MEYERING SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a female Steele County resident currently attending an accredited college or university.  Selection is based upon the applicant’s academic record, educational and professional goals, financial need, and letters of recommendation.  Open to all fields of study.

Allina Health Orthopedics Sports Medicine Scholarship (2 - $2,500)

Allina Health Orthopedics is proud to continue its effort to advance sports medicine and orthopedic care throughout Minnesota with the 14th Annual Allina Health Orthopedics Sports Medicine scholarship for student athletes.  We will offer a scholarship to one female and one male student athlete who intends to attend college to pursue a career in sports medicine.

BEATRICE NATZEL AMERICANISM SCHOLARSHIP (1 - $500)

The Hugo Matejcek Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3723 is seeking applicants for the annual Beatrice Natzel Americanism Scholarship. The $500 scholarship is in memory of the late Beatrice Natzel in honor of her many years of service and dedication to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Americanism Program at the local, District, State and National level. You must have participated in the V.F.W. Voice of Democracy or Patriotic Art programs within the last four years to apply. Academics, character, financial need and recommendations are emphasized in this award given to a graduating senior planning to attend a two or four-year college or university. An essay is submitted about how Owatonna has contributed to the applicant and what he/she has become and how he/she might wish to give something back to the community in the future.

CLASS OF ’58 SCHOLARSHIP (1 - $1,200)

Open to high school seniors, alternating annually between a male and female. This year the scholarship is open to OHS males. Applicant must be attending a MN two or four year college or university, have a GPA of at least 2.0, and active in school, community, church, etc.

COMPEER FINANCIAL SCHOLARSHIP (120 - $1,500)
Note:  this is the former AgStar Financial Services Scholarship.  

The Compeer Financial Fund for Rural America is the corporate giving program of Compeer Financial, structured to support Compeer Financial’s mission to enrich agriculture and rural America. Compeer Financial’s Board of Directors has dedicated one percent of annual net earnings to support the Fund’s focus areas of agricultural advocacy and development, agriculture education, cooperative initiatives, rural development and community enrichment; and youth engagement. The Fund is managed by a Board of Trustees, made up of team members from Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin and members of the Compeer Financial Board of Directors. DAR GOOD CITIZEN SCHOLARSHIP (1 - varying amounts)

The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.  This award recognizess and rewards individuals who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, school and communities.  

If you would like to apply for this scholarship, please see your counselor.  It will require a personal statement and essay to be submitted for review.

DAVE SCHROEDER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT (1 - $400)

This scholarship will be awarded to an Owatonna High School senior who is enrolled in a two or four year law enforcement program in the fall. Priority will be given to those involved in the Explorers Club; however, others are welcome to apply. Applicants must show proof of enrollment in a law enforcement program.

DELTA KAPPA GAMMA SCHOLARSHIP ($500)

Delta Kappa Gamma International is a women's educational society whose main purpose is to further educational growth for women.  The Owatonna/Waseca branch of Delta Kappa Gamma educators is offering a scholarship to a senior at Owatonna High School.  This scholarship is designated for a women student pursuing a degree in education at an accredited college.

DON TUERK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Multiple - $1,000)

Don Tuerk was a community-minded Owatonna native and Owatonna Fireman.  Don was a long time and very active Eagles Aerie 1791 member.  He passed away on December 20, 2015.  In keeping with Don's values and the Owatonna Eagles mission, The Owatonna Eagles has established this memorial scholarship in his name to assist students seeking furthering their education in a public service field.

Applicants must be a senior graduating from any public or private high school in Steele County.  Applicants must be planning on attending a two-year community/technical college to prepare for a technical career.

This scholarship asks for a "personal data sheet".  This is like an educational resume.  You can get a copy of one in the Career Center or you can create your own with your accomplishments, extra curricular, awards, jobs, etc. that you have had thus far in your life.

The Most Valuable Student scholarship is available to high school seniors who are United States citizens. Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks. Applications are judged on academics, leadership, service and financial need.

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP ($4,000)

College-bound high school seniors who are the children or grandchildren of dues-paying Elks are welcome to apply. They are judged on the core values of the Elks National Foundation: knowledge, charity, community service and integrity.

FEDERATED CHALLENGE SCHOLARSHIP ($5,000)

Thanks to the generosity of Federated Insurance and the Federated Challenge we are offering a scholarship for up to $5,000 for students to attend a non-four year education or training program at an accredited Minnesota postsecondary school that focuses on obtaining an apprenticeship, certificate or associate’s degree.  Candidates need to have been mentored by Big Brothers Big Sisters for a minimum of 18 months, or was a High School Big for a minimum of 18 months and is planning to enroll part-time or full-time in a non-four year program at a trade, technical or community college or another accredited Minnesota postsecondary school to obtain an apprenticeship, certificate or associate's degree.

FECU is offering two $500 scholarships to credit union members. Any individual that is a member of Federated Employees Credit Union attending a college or university, graduate or law school, 2- or 4-year program or community or technical college in the Fall of 2021/Spring 2022 is eligible.

FROM THE HEART TYLER HARLICKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (1 or more - $1,000)

Tyler Harlicker was diagnosed with B-precursor Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on December 1st, 2009.  Tyler underwent months of treatment while struggling to fight this disease.  Throughout his journey, Tyler continued to teach others what it meant to have courage and perseverance, passion and grace, humor and love.  Tyler had a great zest for life and, even on his darkest days, Tyler thought more about others than he thought of himself.  Tyler had wisdom beyond his years and was determined to leave this world a better place than when he found it.  Unfortunately, he lost his battle and passed away in March of 2011.  Tyler led his life on a few basic principles; showed compassion to others, lived with courage, loved endlessly, gave from the heart and made a difference in the world!  Recipients must be an Owatonna High School Senior attending a 2 or 4 year college.

FULL CIRCLE COUNSELING AND WELLNESS SCHOLARSHIP (1 - $500)

Full Circle Counseling and Wellness, PC offers scholarships to Owatonna Senior High School graduating seniors who are pursuing a 4-year degree in psychology or social work with the intention of pursing licensure as a psychotherapist. Full Circle Counseling and Wellness, PC provides individual, family and couples therapy in Owatonna to support people pursing personal and relational growth as well as emotional healing. The need for qualified professionals in this field in southern Minnesota is great. Full Circle Counseling and Wellness, PC hopes to encourage young people interested in helping others be the best they can be to pursue a rewarding career in psychotherapy in southern Minnesota.

GISLE A. & EVA M. JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP (Numerous awards, $1000-$3000)

The late Gisle and Eva Johnson, long-time Owatonna residents, left a living legacy for their community in the form of a $1 million endowment.  The interest earned from the endowment funds educational scholarship for Owatonna students.  Gisle Johnson was the most senior active Mercedes dealer in the United States prior to his retirement in 1988.  He and hsi wife, Eva, had worked side by side in the car business in 1950.  The couple was also active church members. 

These scholarships are open to any graduating seniors or graduates planning to be enrolled at least half-time at an accredited two or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school (age 35 or younger).

GOPHER SPORT/MALCOLM STEPHENSON STUDENT ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP (2 - $2,500)

Presented to one graduating female and one graduating male student from OHS. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and must have lettered in a varsity sport while at OHS. Emphasis will be placed upon good sportsmanship, behavior and moral character.

GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS COLLEGE ALUMNI REFERRAL SCHOLARSHIP (multiple - $1,000 renewable for 4 years for a total of $4,000)

Any student who is planning on attending Gustavus in the Fall should email Shannon DeWitz in the OHS Main office (sdewitz@isd761.org) to let her know of your intentions.  Once she has your name she will try to pair you with a Gustavus graduate who can then refer your name to Gustavus to receive $1,000 (renewable up to 4 years) above and beyond your calculated financial aid package if you choose to attend Gustavus.

Must be a HomeTown Federal Credit Union member for at least six months from application deadline. Must be a graduating high school senior planning to attend a private or public college, university, community college or technical college.

HORATIO ALGER ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP (multiple - $10,000)
The Horatio Alger Association’s scholarship programs are among the few in the nation that specifically focus on identifying young people who, similar to its Members, have overcome exceptional hardships.  Despite facing adversities in their young lives, Horatio Alger Scholars have proven their ability to succeed.

The Career & Technical Scholarship Program is funded through the Horatio Alger Endowment Fund and the generosity of Association Chairman Emeritus and Endowment Fund President Walter Scott, Jr.  Scholarships are awarded to students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their lives who wish to pursue a career or technical education at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States.

Jeff Kath was a proud community member who gave countless hours of service that directly impacted individuals, programs and the betterment of our surrounding communities. The Lee Foundation is focused on opening opportunities for Minnesota students pursuing the fields of science, technology and engineering.  To recognize talent and curiosity in this space, it seeks to award merit-based scholarships to further these students' post-secondary educations.

LTO (LITTLE THEATRE OF OWATONNA) SARAH FOREMAN MEMORIAL POST-SECONDARY SCHOLARSHIP ($1,000)

This scholarship has been established as a memorial to long-time Little Theatre of Owatonna member, Sarah Foreman, who died in February 2006.  This scholarship is meant to recognize and support the post-secondary education of a local person whose studies and/or participation in theatre distinguish him/her.  Recipients will be chosen based on theater involvement including LTO, two letters of recommendation, academic achievements and educational goals, and college and/or community involvement beside theater.

MAGGIE DIXON HONORARY SCHOLARSHIP (1 - $500)

Maggie (Cundiff) Dixon attended Luther College from 1961 to 1964; she went on to MSU and graduated from there in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and she minored in Spanish.  Maggie did her student teaching at Lincoln Elementary School and went on to each second grade at McKinley Elementary School in 1966.  In 1985 Maggie moved back to Owatonna and taught 7 1/2 years in the Title One Program at Washington Elementary and also taught two trimesters of Early Bird Spanish during that time as well.  After retiring Maggie continued to sub within the District for the elementary schools and provided private tutoring.  Maggie would like to give this scholarship to an OHS student who wants to go into elementary education and help support them in making their dream come true.

The Meilahn Family Scholarship is open to a graduating senior from OHS who has earned at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA and who academic performance reflects consistent yearly progress and has been accepted in good standing at any accredited, public or private, four-year college or university in the United States.

MINNESOTA SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS SCHOLARSHIP 

This scholarship is for students who have a genuine interest in engineering.  The Traverse Des Sioux Chapter of the MSPE sponsors this scholarship.  You must be a full-time student enrolled in an engineering program and have a permanent address within one of the 17 TDS counties (Blue Earth, Brown, Cottonwood, Faribault, Freeborn, Jackson, Le Sueur, Martin, McCleod, Nicollet, Nobles, Rice, Rock, Sibley, Steele, Waseca, Watonwan). You must be considered a Junior or Senior for the 2020-2021 academic year.

A number of scholarships are available for eligible students. The Donald Sanford Fund scholarship is available to individuals who are planning on or currently enrolled in nursing programs. Recipients of these scholarships will be selected on the basis of need and merit. Those who are currently enrolled in nursing programs and looking to further your nursing education may apply for both scholarships.

The Owatonna Public Utilities is accepting scholarship essays and applications with the subject of "Municipal Utilities:  Good for All of Us".  The winning recipients application will be sent on to the Minnesota Utilities Association for entry in the Tom Bovitz Memorial Scholarship state-wide contest.

To high school seniors:

If you are graduating this spring and are planning to attend Riverland Community College in the fall.  More than 75 scholarships are available for high school seniors through the Riverland Community College Foundation.  All high school seniors graduating this spring are eligible.  All applications submitted by the deadline will be considered for a scholarship award.  A few minutes of your time could mean thousands of dollars in scholarship support.

761 FOUNDATIONS'S STEELE COUNTY ROBERT CHLADEK SCHOLARSHIP (1 - $5,000)

Robert Chladek, long time Clinton Falls farmer, had a desire to enhance educational opportunities for potential agribusiness students within Steele County.  This year the Foundation Board is pleased to award this scholarship to one student in Steele County pursuing an agribusiness degree at a college or university.  Therefore, this scholarship is open to any student who has taken some agriculture classes along with STEM and/or business curriculum.

RON BAKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (1-$3,500)
(Administered by the 761 Foundation)

Ron Baker was born and raised in Owatonna and graduated from OHS.  He was co-captain of the 1954 OHS wrestling team that won the state championship.  Scholarship applicants must be a graduating senior who wrestled their senior year.  They must have at least a 3.0 GPA, have financial need, must be a letter winner and applying to a Division I, II or III school or an accepted technical school.

Available to any Steele County resident. You do not have to be a St. John Lutheran Church member. Awards are based on the number of qualified applicants and the amount of scholarship funds available for a given year.

SFM FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP (up to $10,000 a year for 5 years)

We know that serious work accidents don’t only affect the injured worker, they impact the entire family. The cost of college can be very overwhelming with a parent working fewer hours — or not at all. While we can’t ease the pain and suffering caused by your parent’s injury, we can help make college more affordable so you can pursue your dreams.

SFM Foundation scholarships may be used toward the costs of attending a two-year or four-year university, college or vocational school. To qualify, students must have a parent who was disabled or fatally injured while working for Minnesota or Iowa employers. Scholarships are awarded up to a maximum of $10,000 a year, and are renewable for two years for a 2-year program, and up to 5 years for a bachelor’s degree.

STEVE STOCKWELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (1 - $500)

This scholarship is given in remembrance of Steve Stockwell, who was a graduate of Owatonna High School, Class of '81.  Steve was a carpenter/cabinetmaker/woodworker by trade.  This scholarship is open to students pursuing vocational/technical training in carpentry, woodworking or cabinetmaking or other similar trade.

STUDENT VIEW SCHOLARSHIP (1 - $5,000, 1 - $1,000, 10 - $500)

This scholarship is for high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school.  The application will take 15-20 minutes, scholarships will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications.

TED G. RINGHOFER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (1 - $1,000)
 

This annual scholarship is given in partnership by TPS Insurance Agency and the Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Ambassadors in honor and memory of Ted G. Ringhofer who died of cancer in 1997. Ted was a graduate of OHS. While in school, Ted was in wrestling, was President of the Student Council, worked on homecoming floats and was involved in many other activities. He was President of Owatonna Chamber of Commerce for over 29 years and on the City Council for 24 years. Ted's respect for our community can be seen in his many years of dedication and volunteer work.

VFW “YOUNG AMERICAN CREATIVE PATRIOTIC ART CONTEST” (5 – varying amounts)

Applicant must submit artwork within criteria stated on the application. Recognition will be given to students whose artwork illustrates a patriotic theme with a meaningful message attached that explains their entry. Students who apply for this award are also eligible to apply for the Beatrice Natzel Americanism Scholarship that becomes due in the spring of their senior year.
